Formal Consideration of Academic Appeals

Overview

Vedere University will designate a nominated individual, usually a senior member of staff or faculty, to serve as a reviewer for the academic appeal. The role of the reviewer is to conduct an initial assessment, ensuring that the appeal has been submitted within the specified timeframe and that the permissible grounds for appeal have been satisfied. Based on this assessment, the reviewer will determine whether the appeal should proceed for formal consideration.

The reviewer has the authority to gather relevant information and documentation from the student, as well as any individuals or organizations mentioned in the appeal, and relevant parties within the Vedere University community. In certain circumstances, and with the student’s consent, this may involve requesting comprehensive disclosure of medical conditions, disabilities, and a summary of reasonable accommodations.

Once the review process is completed, the reviewer will provide a summary for the formal consideration of the appeal and aim to make a judgment.

In order for the academic appeal to be upheld, the reviewer must be fully convinced that the permissible grounds have been met and that it is fair and reasonable to uphold the appeal. This includes verifying that the extenuating circumstances and/or material error have significantly and negatively affected the student’s assessment, final grade, course progression, or degree award. Additionally, the appeal must be supported by compelling evidence.

The outcome of the appeal will be communicated as upheld, partially upheld, or rejected. The communication will include a detailed explanation of the reasons for the decision and any necessary steps for further action, if applicable.
